Friends of FFLA

Friends of FFLA are considered the members of the Florida Community who support and empower  World Language Professionals in the state.

Each year, the FFLA Conference is hosted by a team of teachers and professors from a specific region in the State. Through our efforts to involve all World Language Professionals in the state, the conference location changes each year. Last year (2011) it was held in Central Florida, or Brevard County. This year (2012) it will be held in N.E. Florida, or St. Augustine. Next year (2013), it will be held at the Orlando Convention Center, in conjunction with the ACTFL, or American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages.

As we move around the state, we are able to highlight the special characteristics of each region, such as Kennedy Space Center and the Port of Canaveral. This year our highlight will be Ft. Matanzas and St. Augustine, to highlight our history, as well as the Port of Jacksonville, to highlight the commercial benefits of being multilingual and for the state to have a multilingual workforce.

The FFLA Board of Directors initiated the "Friends of FFLA Award" at the 2-011 conference. Bob Dees is the first recipient of this award bestowed upon members of the FLORIDA community that go beyond expectations to support the learning of World Languages in the State. The goal is to select Friends of FFLA each year and the award will be presented at the Conference Gala Dinner Celebration.

FFLA would also like to offer our supporters an opportunity to donate to our organization in support of our efforts to bring new languages, cultures and life-changing skills to the children and world language students in our state.

Thank you to all our supporters and please know that your donations are appreciated. Our conference, each year, provides the most current, best-practices and staff development for our members. We bring in renowned expert speakers, from the WL national community. We provide an Expo with the most up-to-date materials, textbooks and programs for our members to take back to their schools and colleagues.  The Board of Directors and all involved in this organization are volunteers. We do what we do because we have a passion for languages and connecting with members of the world community around us.
